Advantages of comprehensive insurance in transportation

Comprehensive insurance reliably protects your truck fleet by covering property damage caused by classic risks such as accidents, theft, vandalism and forces of nature. Affected vehicles are quickly repaired; financial losses due to breakdowns are minimized.

A particular advantage of the comprehensive solution from LUTZ ASSEKURANZ is that damage caused by gross negligence on the part of ordinary employees is also covered - protection that many "off-the-shelf" insurance policies do not offer.

Comprehensive protection

In addition to coverage for traditional risks (accidents, theft, natural disasters, etc.), “Lutz comprehensive insurance” , among other things, a range of special coverage elements such as reimbursement of costs for wreck removal, reimbursement of repatriation costs after recovery, coverage of “general average” contributions, and reimbursement of salvage costs that are not limited by sublimits. Elements of machinery-breakdown-coverage can also be included in the policy upon agreement.

Eigenverschulden

FAQ on comprehensive transport insurance

We have compiled the most frequently asked questions about comprehensive transport insurance for you in our FAQ. Our experts will also be happy to provide you with individual advice.

What documents are required for an insurance quote?

We need the following information so that we can provide you with a tailor-made offer:

  • Vehicle list including license plate number, make, model number, tonnage, year of construction, any special equipment (if available) and the desired sum insured
  • extract from the company register
  • Claims history (only for large fleets): Overview of claims in recent years from the previous insurer
Does the insurer have to see the insured vehicles before the risk begins?

If necessary, the insurer reserves the right to carry out a vehicle inspection or request photos of the vehicles before the insurance cover begins. This serves the purpose of a precise risk assessment and is carried out individually depending on the type of vehicle and the size of the fleet.

Is a security device required for the insured vehicles (alarm system)

As a minimum, the standard vehicle lock is required for insurance cover. Depending on the risk assessment, the insurer may also recommend or require additional security measures such as alarm systems or immobilizers.

Does the declaration of vehicle values have to be signed by the customer?

No, it is sufficient to send the vehicle values by e-mail or post.

Which documents must be signed to take out insurance?

To conclude the insurance policy, we need your signature on the consultation protocol and the broker mandate. These documents form the basis for legally secure and transparent cooperation.

How is special equipment insured?

Additional vehicle equipment is also insured within the scope of the agreed sum insured - provided it is reported and proven on request. Please inform us of any optional extras so that the insurance cover is fully guaranteed.

How are used vehicle parts taken into account for compensation?

If the vehicle is not a total loss and individual damaged parts have to be replaced, compensation is paid at the replacement value of the parts - in line with the "new for old" principle.

Does the comprehensive insurance have a fixed sum insured?

The full sum insured is always available for each insured event. Compensation does not reduce the sum for future claims, as there is no annual aggregate. This means that your insurance cover remains constant and reliable - regardless of the number of claims.

Against which risks is the vehicle covered by comprehensive insurance?

The insurance generally covers damage caused by an accident, i.e. by a sudden external event involving mechanical force. Theft and robbery damage are also covered. Please refer to Art. 3 of ABTVF 2012-PL or ABTVF 2012-A for the exact scope of the insurance cover and other insured risks.

What is "general average" (ferry insurance) and is it included in the insurance?

General average applies to carriers who regularly use ferries.

It is declared by the captain if the ship and cargo are in mutual danger at sea - for example in the event of severe storms, inability to maneuver or imminent sinking of the ship. In order to save the ship and cargo, measures such as throwing cargo overboard or external salvage costs may be necessary. The resulting costs are distributed proportionately among all parties involved - including truck drivers, according to the value of the vehicle.

With LUTZ ASSEKURANZ, these costs are also insured as part of the hull insurance, provided that general average cover is included in accordance with the insurance conditions.

How can I contact Lutz Assekuranz if an insured event occurs?

By e-mail to claims(at)lutz-assekuranz(dot)eu or by telephone on +43 1 8175573, or via the online claim form 24h.

Is there a deadline for reporting claims?

Yes - a claim must be reported to the insurer as soon as possible, but within one week at the latest. In the event of vehicle theft, a report must also be made to the police immediately.

How are insurance claims compensated?

Compensation is generally paid within the scope of the agreed sum insured.

In the event of a total loss, the current value less the residual value will be compensated; the values are generally determined by a property damage expert.

  • Total loss:
The current value less the residual value is reimbursed. The values are usually determined by an expert. In addition, costs for the removal or destruction of the vehicle are reimbursed up to five percent above the insured value.
  • Partial damage:
The costs of salvage, repairs and spare parts are reimbursed. Important: The salvage costs - together with the repair and spare parts costs - are reimbursed up to a maximum of the current value of the vehicle, taking into account the residual value.

The exact compensation regulations can be found in Art. 8 of ABTVF 2012-PL or ABTVF 2012-A of the insurance conditions.

Where should damaged vehicles be repaired?

Damaged vehicles should always be repaired in the nearest workshop that can guarantee proper execution of the repair. On request and with the consent of the insurance company, a different location may be specified in individual cases.

What documents are required as part of the claim notification?

In any case, a timely, written damage report is required - transmission by e-mail is sufficient.

Depending on the individual case, further documents may also be required, such as a police report, driver's report, accident report, repair invoice or proof of destruction. Please note the respective requirements of the insurer.

Do damaged vehicles have to be inspected? Who commissions this?

If an inspection is necessary, the insurer will commission an expert. Whether this is necessary will be decided as part of the claims processing.

Is it possible to pay the premium in installments?

The option to pay in installments depends on the premium volume. If the volume is appropriate, payment can be made monthly, semi-annually or quarterly.

Are there deductibles? How high are they?

Offers are always made subject to a deductible. Please refer to the respective offer for the exact amount of the deductible.

Are there special deductibles in the event of theft?

No, unless this is agreed individually.

How far does the geographical scope of the insurance extend?

The insurance cover applies geographically within Europe including Turkey as well as in the Near and Middle East and the countries bordering the Mediterranean in Africa. Insurance cover is provided on land - in particular also in piggyback transport. If the vehicle is transported by water, the insurance cover remains in force provided the place of loading is within the area of validity stated.

Up to what age can vehicles be insured? (year of construction)

The maximum age is generally 10 years.
